This park with abundant wildlife are Kenya's least known and least visited park. It is situated east of Isiolo and Meru and profit from the rainfall around Mt. Kenya. Here you find thick jungle with high grasses and swamplands, making it a little more difficult however to spot wildlife. It was in the Meru National Park where George and Joy Adamson released a number of hand-raised animals, one of which was the offspring of the famous lion Elsa (known from the book Born Free) and their cheetah Pippa. The park for some time has had an enormous poaching problem where elephants and white rhino were the victims. Recently security has very much improved and this park is definitely worth a visit if you wish to experience the tropical jungle and the breathtaking views of Mt. Kenya. On the road between Meru and Ambu you pass a lot of cultivated land and rice paddies.
We only visit Meru N.P. in a two-days trip with a overnight in in a Banda of the KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service). Back to safaris
