*Samburu National Reserve* is 165 km2, altitude between 800 and 1245 m, on the north bank of Ewaso Ng’iro. A broad ribbon of acacia, tamarind and palm trees form a forest along the course of the river, providing a cool shade for the game. We hope you have a spectacular view on lion and/or cheetah. But don’t disregard the Grevy zebra, Gerenuk and Somali ostrich because you can only find them here in the North of Kenya. Here you can also find the hippo which is unknown in Shaba.
The Ewaso Niyro River sustains the wildlife in this area. An abundance of water and shady trees are ideal for animals. Along side the crocodiles found in the river beds, there are some species of animals that are found no where else but here. They are the Grevy zebra, the Somalian ostrich and the reticulated giraffe. Other animals also found elsewhere in Kenya include elephants, lions, zebras and leopards. Because the park is not very well known it is also not very busy which is a plus point where some parks in Kenya are overflowing with mini-buses and tourists.
In the two parks (Samburu and Buffalo Springs)recent counting come to more than 1700 Elephants; 450 Giraffes; 24 Lions, 16 cheetahs and 21 Leopards. Not to mention the countless baboons and several varieties of gazelles. The game migrates between the two parks on dayly basis, so you can never be sure where to find them. Back to safaris
